Eighteen-year-old James Coy joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1948, like many young men of that time, to avoid being forced into the Army through the draft. Leonard “Len” Brown, 90, U.S.Navy 1946 - 54. Brown was born and raised in Boise. His only time away from Boise were the eight years he spent in the Navy. He was trained as a sonar man first serving on the destroyer USS Duncan, DD874. The ship was assigned duties in the Pacific.
