KANDAHAR, Afghanistan—A provincial security meeting was held inside the governor’s palace Jan. 2.
Kandahar’s provincial governor, Tooralai Wesa , said farewell to Col. Barry Huggins, commander of 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, and hello to Col. Ken Adgie, commander of 1st BCT, 1st Armored Division.
Maj. Gen. Robert B. Abrams, commander of 3rd Infantry Division, and notable Afghan leaders attended the security meeting as well.
“I am impressed with the overall achievements of the Afghan population,” said Huggins. “I am very proud of what has taken place with security.”
Key leaders and police chiefs discussed problems within their districts. Adgie stayed on the sideline, listening as the discussion heated up about the insurgents who are terrorizing their neighborhoods.
“The Afghan National Security Forces are getting stronger and more confident and continues to focus on enabling independence,” said Abrams. “There’s no enemy that the ANSF can’t defeat.”
Maj. Gen. Abdul Hamid, corps commander of the 205th Afghan National Army, listened intently as the provincial chief of police, Brig. Gen. Abdul Razziq, directed his attention about the district governor of Khakrez.
Razziq expressed his concerns about the current district governor of Khakrez, noting that the present district governor believes he is the better choice than the previous one.
Abrams closed the hearing by advising the key leaders in Kandahar province that the highways and local roads will have more International Security Assistance Forces traffic due to the draw-down in 2014. He also addressed the audience that the traffic will still respect local traffic laws and hours.
