By Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Zeltakalns
HMS CORNWALL, At Sea - Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Sir Bedivere (L 3004) arrived in the North Persian Gulf March 28 carrying supplies, including a small platoon of British Royal Marines and equipment, to HMS Cornwall (F 99).
The Royal Marines boarded Iraqi Navy Ship (INS) P101, a patrol boat, at 12:30 p.m. Iraqi time bound for Cornwall.
Bedivere departed Mina Salman, Bahrain March 28 for a regularly-scheduled 18-month deployment in support of Maritime Security Operations (MSO).
MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
Bedivere's commanding officer, Royal Navy Capt. Shaun Jones, said his ship is well suited for its mission in the Gulf.
