New ALP members graduate in Chenar, Tambil
KHAKREZ DISTRICT, Afghanistan- The villagers of Chenar and Tambil welcomed 18 new Afghan Local Police graduates to their checkpoints in Khakrez district, Oct. 12.
ALP is an Afghan Ministry of Interior sponsored, village-focused security program. ALP complements counterinsurgency efforts by assisting and supporting rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence, and promotes conditions for improved security, governance and development.
The development of the ALP enables Afghans to take responsibility for their village’s security, which allows a more responsive government from the local to national levels.
ALP candidates received training in combat casualty care, weapons familiarization, patrolling techniques and other tasks to prepare them for their duties as ALP members. At the culmination of the three-week training program, ALP members are better prepared to protect their villages from insurgent activity while continuing their support of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
“The training is good for us to be able to defend our village where there isn’t any other security,” said an ALP graduate.
