    3rd Division Sustainment Brigade

FORT STEWART, Ga.— Approximately 80 Third Sustainment Brigade, Third Infantry Division, soldiers were in attendance, Sept. 12, at a workshop called Provider Wellness. Their ages and ranks varied but the theme was one: an intentional communication of concern for soldiers.

“The driving idea is taking a group of soldiers that have been identified as having stress in their lives and to educate them on ways to handle that stress or diversity,” said Capt. Dana Cook, 3rd Sustainment Brigade’s master resilience trainer, who spearheaded the Provider Wellness operation. “The Army is noticing that by teaching resiliency training, they can provide the tools to the soldiers who a lot of the time just does not know where to go to get them.”

The half-day workshop was packed full of information, starting with the 3rd Sustainment Brigade Chaplain Capt. Chris Wallace, who spoke about control and how to identify what soldiers can and cannot control in life.

“When we deploy we train in everything, the weapons, gear, ect; but we need to train who we are as people as well,” Chaplain Wallace said. “As soldiers, if we can strengthen who we are or our own character, we would be healthier.”

Fort Stewart’s Family Advocacy Program representatives were also on,-hand during the seminar and spoke about relationships, family and domestic violence. Additionally, military family life consultants discussed characteristics of stress and how to handle it.

“Undoubtedly the military life is a very stressful life,” said aid Roberto Riveros, MFLC counselor. “Stress will change the perception of everything that one sees, hears or responds to. If the Soldier is equipped to handle stress it will make [him or her] stronger and healthier overall.”

One of the most popular topics among the Soldiers was financial management, taught by members of Stewart’s Army Community Service. The workshop closed with a lesson on resiliency—how to ‘hunt for the good things and activating events, thoughts and consequences.’

“By focusing on resilience training with our troops, we are teaching them to be more mentally agile,” said Capt. Cook. “If we can have soldiers that know how to bounce back and handle these diversities we will have a stronger force.”

Provider Wellness Workshop will be a continuing series. The goals behind it are to help the soldiers get the resources they need to stay fit to fight.

“We just want the soldiers to take this to heart and take it seriously,” said Capt. Cook. “As a brigade we have a caring and engaging leadership that is really trying to help.”
