BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. Jack Dalrymple appointed Robert Olzweski of Bismarck, John D. Hanson of Grand Forks and Marlin Schneider of Bismarck each to a three year term on the Administrative Committee on Veterans Affairs (ACOVA).
Robert Olzweski is an army veteran who served in two wars Vietnam 1968 & 1969 and Afghanistan in 2003. Robert currently retired as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. Mr. Olzweski is a member of the AMVETS (Past post commander), and a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, Military Order of the Purple Heart. John D. Hanson served on active duty with the Air Force. After completing his active service he joined the ND National Guard. John is a member of the DAV, AMVETS, Air Force SGT’s Association and the VFW. Marlin Schneider served in the ND Army National Guard for 43 years retiring as a CW5. He is a member of the American Legion, ND National Guard Association and the Military Officers Association.
These members were appointed by their Veteran Service Organizations; Robert Olzweski by the AMVETS, John Hanson by the VFW, and Marlin Schneider by the American Legion for the governor appointed position which they began July 1, 2012. While on the ACOVA they will serve on several subcommittees which serve the Veterans of North Dakota. The ACOVA oversees the expenditures of the Post War Trust Fund interest earnings, legislative laws concerning veterans, ND Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Governing board of the Veterans Home. The ACOVA is comprised of 15 voting members, each appointed by the Governor, representing the five major veteran organizations in the state. Each year, the Governor is to appoint one member from a list of two names submitted by the following veteran organizations: American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, AMVETS, and Vietnam Veterans of America. The Committee is also comprised of three nonvoting members who are to serve in an advisory capacity - the North Dakota Adjutant General, the Center Director of the Federal Veterans Affairs, and the Executive Director Job Service North Dakota.
The governor also appointed Dean Overby of Wahpeton as chairman of the ACOVA and appointed John Adolf of Bismarck as the Secretary. Other members re-appointed to the ACOVA are; Lee Finstad (VVA) of Grand Forks and Ron Otto (DAV) of Mandan. Members currently serving on the ACOVA are; Richard Belling of West Fargo, Dave Hilleren of New Town, Jeff Hall of Bottineau, Mike Fischer of Bismarck, Kenneth Hasby of New Town, Carroll Quam of Wahpeton, Trish Hodny of Thompson and James Verwey of Valley City. The fifteen member board will hold their next meeting Sept. 27 and 28, 2012 at the Bismarck Comfort Inn.
