PHILIPPINE SEA – Hull Maintenance Technician Fireman 3rd Class Sean Skewes, a Newark, Vt., native, is currently serving aboard the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).
Skewes works out of the hull technician shop where he welds, repairs, brazes and fabricates parts for the ship.
“My job requires a lot of hard work,” said Skewes. “But I really enjoy the cool things I get to do.”
The foundation of the fleet is its sailors who lead by the example of being ever ready and dedicated to the Navy’s mission. The Navy takes pride in its sailors ability to be hard working and always prepared.
“The Navy has given me an life experience and the opportunity to see the world,” said Skewes.
Skewes, son of Mike Skewes, graduated from Roxbury High School in 2009 and plans to further his education while in the Navy.
The Navy is founded on principles of courage, equality and fairness that have been instrumental in presenting many ideas to the world through the selfless service of upstanding men and women.
“I’m very proud to serve my country, he added. I love keeping my family and friends safe and out of harm.
USS Bonhomme Richard, commanded by Capt. Daniel Dusek, is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed amphibious ready group and is currently on deployment in the 7th Fleet area of operations.
