    II Marine Expeditionary Force

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. — Lance Cpl. Joshua Bugarchich is a collateral duty inspector and avionics technician with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 366. It is his job to inspect maintenance performed by other avionics technicians and certify the helicopter for flight. He makes sure nothing is overlooked.

His job is a great responsibility, and is usually performed by a seasoned corporal or a sergeant, said Gunnery Sgt. Ryan W. Morris, the staff noncommissioned officer in charge of the avionics section with the squadron. Bugarchich said without someone performing his function, people could die in an accident.

Bugarchich's favorite aspect of the job is fixing things and being a hands-on technician.

"I couldn't sit around a desk all day," he said. "Repairs make time go by faster and it's fun. I'm not the kind of person to push a pencil all day and be happy."

As a collateral duty inspector, he makes sure other Marines are learning the job. Bugarchich said part of the challenge of an inspector is balancing teaching others and doing the repairs himself.

He arrived at his position by hard work and resilience. Bugarchich joined the Hammerheads in June with a black spot on his record. At his previous squadron, Bugarchich received non-judicial punishment, but HMH-366 started him off with a clean slate and the door to success left wide open.

"He's an example of how even though you make a mistake, you can give a guy a second chance and he'll jump on his feet and excel," said Morris. "As soon as he's eligible he's going to be promoted to corporal and sergeant will be quickly to follow."
