PACIFIC OCEAN – Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class Robert Hohmann is currently serving aboard amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) on deployment in the Western Pacific.
Hohmann, a Fort Worth, Texas native, joined the Navy a little over nine years ago.
“I had been working in the automotive industry for six years when 9/11 happened,” said Hohmann. “I got tired of working on cars and I wanted to start learning aviation. Someone pointed out that the best way to do it would be either through the Air Force or the Navy. I chose the Navy.”
Hohmann said that he liked that the U.S. Navy’s training was broader and didn’t focus on one particular job. He said that he likes being a “jack of all trades."
Hohmann plans to stay in the Navy as long as he can.
“I look forward to whatevers thrown at me,” said Hohmann.
The U.S. Navy is founded on principles of courage, equality and fairness that have been instrumental in presenting many ideas to the world through the selfless service of upstanding men and women; through their responsible use of incredibly powerful capabilities; and through the pride, purpose and professionalism that comes through in all they do.
Bonhomme Richard, commanded by Capt. Daniel Dusek, is the lead ship of the only forward-deployed amphibious ready group and is currently operating in the 7th Fleet area of operation.
