PAKTIKA, Afghanistan - Elders from western Paktika province and members of the Afghan National Security Forces held a transition ceremony with coalition forces at the Zarghun Shar district center, Aug. 29.
The ceremony marked the end of a year and a half long mission to increase security in the district and transfer security responsibilities from the coalition forces to the ANSF.
“Zarghun Shar district has come a long way,” said a special forces detachment commander. “The Afghan Local Police, Afghan National Police and Afghan Uniformed Police have all had a part in the transition.”
During the ceremony, military officials took turns speaking and stressed the responsibility village elders have to support Afghan security forces.
“Afghanistan is a strong country. Our people respect you (ANSF) and your villages. You must maintain the security in the villages,” said Brig. Gen. Wali Mohammed, an Afghan National Army Operations Officer.
Even though the security responsibilities for district have been completely handed over to the ANSF, the cooperation and friendship between the ANSF and their coalition forces mentors will remain.
“The united partnership will continue and we will always be here to advise and assist as needed,” said the special forces detachment commander. “I am confident that ANSF will keep the villages safe.”
