Commandos awarded coveted US Army Badge

PAKTIKA, Afghanistan – The 3rd Company, 2nd Special Operations Kandak commandos were awarded the U.S. Army Combat Infantryman Badge during a ceremony at Forward Operating Base Sharana, Aug. 24.

The awards were presented to the commandos for their exemplary actions during a recent operation in Gelan district, Ghazni province. The area was known for improvised explosive device trafficking and Taliban intimidation. The one day operation resulted in 11 enemy insurgents being killed and no civilian injuries.

“We want to recognize the commandos who have earned this award,” said Lt. Col. William D. Linn, Special Operations Task Force East commander. “My personal respect, admiration, and congratulations to the men who can now proudly wear this coveted combat award.”

This is not the first time American awards have been presented to Afghan National Security Forces; however, awardees are chosen judiciously and represent more than a job well done.

“It is a symbol of our partnership and the friendship between the United States and Afghanistan,” said the SOTF-E commander. “This partnership between special forces and the Afghan commandos will last forever.”
