WASHINGTON - A native of Silver Lake, Ore., received a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal at Marine Barracks Washington, Aug. 17.
Cpl. Justin Roark, the Barracks training non-commissioned officer, was awarded the medal for three years of faithful service by his company’s commanding officer during a ceremony at the oldest post of the Corps
“It was great to be recognized,” said the 23-year-old. “I thank my family and friends for my upbringing and raising me right. I owe it to them.”
Roark enlisted in the Marine Corps January 2007. During his time at the Barracks, he has proven to be a vital asset to the operations section and Headquarters & Service Company as the training NCO.
Throughout his career, the North Lake High School-graduate has been honored with the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
Roark said he plans to stay in the Corps as long as he possibly can and successfully accomplish whatever is thrown his way.
“I’m so proud to represent and honor my hometown and the rest of the Marines with this award,” said Roark.
