Afghan Local Police validation shura commences in Kuz Kunar district

KUNAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Approximately 200 locals gathered to attend an Afghan Local Police validation shura in Kuz Kunar district, Kunar province, Aug. 12.

ALP are village level security forces who work alongside Afghan National Police to bring stability and security to their specific villages.
“We cannot build villages without these local forces,” said Brig. Gen. Shaw Ahmadzai, the director of ALP with the Afghan National Police. “Our weakness is that we are not united. It is not the time of the gun, but of the pen. Through security and education we can build a ‘modern life system’ in this province.”

When Ahmadzai opened the floor to questions, the main concern from local elders was the number of ALP allotted to their district.

“We elected the governor and always participate in elections,” said one local elder. “We are asking for help, because we need more ALP in our villages.”

Ahmadzai completed the Shura by responding to the elders’ concerns.

“We want to rule and defend the law,” said Ahmadzai. “In the future we will increase the number of ALP. These people represent you. They have relationships with thousands of people like you and if we are to win, we must remain united.”
