SAN DIEGO – Service members from Southern California military installations gathered at Qualcomm Stadium to participate in the San Diego Chargers’ 24th annual Salute to the Military day, Aug. 9.
The event featured a performance by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing band while marching on the field.
Service members unfurled a giant American flag across half the field before four F/A-18 Hornets flew over the stadium, all of this happening as the national anthem was sang.
After the flyover, Lt. Gen. Thomas D. Waldhauser, the commanding general of the I Marine Expeditionary Force, participated in the pre-game coin toss.
During halftime, members of the Wounded Warriors Battalion West walked on the field for recognition for their accomplishments.
The Chargers played the Green Bay Packers for their opening pre-season game. The Chargers won 21-13.
