FORT KNOX, Ky. - U.S. Army NHRA Racing Top Fuel drivers Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher and Antron Brown were at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga., Sunday, May 6, for the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals, while U.S. Army NASCAR Racing driver Ryan Newman was at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama for the Aaron's 499.

Schumacher dropped a final-round race to first-time winner Steve Torrence, while Brown posted a rare first round loss to Doug Kalitta.

Despite not grabbing his first win of the season, Schumacher still managed to take over the points lead over Spencer Massey, Brown, Morgan Lucas and Torrence, respectively.

In losing to Kalitta, Brown recorded his first opening round defeat in 33 straight starts. He also surrendered the top spot in the standings to Schumacher, after regaining it for the third time this season last weekend in Houston.

On the NASCAR side, Newman in his No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet started 14th but engine problems forced a 36th-place finish.

While Newman (13th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings) will travel to Darlington International Raceway in South Carolina, Saturday, May 12, for the Bojangles' Southern 500, Schumacher and Brown will head for Heartland Park Topeka (Kan.) in two weeks for the Dollar General Summer Nationals.
