WORLAND, Wyo. – Soldiers from C Battery, 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery, Wyoming Army National Guard, simulated firing the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System in Worland, Wyo., April 21.
The soldiers were training in preparation for a live shoot of the HIMARS at Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center in June. The HIMARS live shoot in June will be the last time C Battery, known as "Charlie Battery," shoots together as a battery before they are deactivated.
Community members, family and friends are invited to the deactivation ceremony, June 16, at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Worland, at 9 a.m.
Worland has been home to Charlie Battery since 1996, although the battery’s lineage dates back to the Korean War.
“This is where I started,” said Maj. Fred Nasredine, the battalion operations officer for the 2-300th. “It is definitely a sad day to see the War Dog guidon being folded.” War Dogs is another nickname for the C Battery.
“The community has always been very supportive of Charlie Battery,” said Capt. Scott A. Gromer, Charlie Battery’s commander. “We want Worland to know there will still be a military presence in the community.”
The 920th Forward Support Company will occupy the armory in Worland after the deactivation of Charlie Battery.
The mission of the 920th is to provide support in the form of food, ammunition and other supplies to the units in the 2-300th.
