KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – More than 130 Afghan men, women and children took advantage of a free Village Medical Outreach Program in Chineh, Khakrez district, April 13.
The Afghan National Army held Chineh’s first VMOP in hopes to promote the Darvashan clinic and to build trust among the local villagers, ANA, and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, said ANA Sgt. Ghulam Azratt.
“I came here for the support of my country, for the support of the ANA, and support of the people,” said Azratt. “It makes me proud to help the people of Afghanistan.”
The VMOP is designed to bring the citizens of Chineh together, provide free health care and demonstrate the government’s commitment to the population.
Members of the ANA provided security for the citizens while Afghan doctors treated the villagers and distributed medications.
This was the first time the village has seen a female doctor, a special operations forces member.
A female gynecologist from the ministry of public health volunteered her services to the women of Chineh. She hopes to promote health and welfare while supporting GIRoA, said a SOF detachment commander.
A GIRoA medical official, Dr. Muhammad Musab, stated the VMOP was able to provide aid to children and adult males, while the female doctor treated some of the Chineh women. Also, the ANA and GIRoA were able to distribute books, pens, clothing and shoes to the children while handing out food and other hygiene items to the adults.
These VMOP’s are a way to promote health and welfare, along with improving the image of GIRoA in the eyes of the people, said Musab.
