Afghan National Security Forces make progress destroying 6 IEDs
GHAZNI DISTRICT, Afghanistan - During a mounted movement to an Afghan Local Police graduation ceremony, Afghan National Security Forces and coalition special operations forces found six improvised explosive devices and one rocket-propelled grenade in the Gelan district, Ghazni province, April 13.
The IEDs were discovered in a wadi system south of the Agha Kala village. The ANSF while partnered with coalition special operations forces were able to use their skills and successfully destroyed all six IEDs. No one was injured or killed during the destruction of the IEDs. This is a testament to the training the ANSF have received as they support the local populace and keep areas safe for villagers.
In recent weeks as the area enters the spring, insurgents have stepped up their attacks in village areas to intimidate the populace. Unfortunately, the victims are often women and children who accidentally find the IEDs and are maimed or killed.
"This increases security in the local area," said a coalition special operations forces member. "Due to the increased cooperation and ability of the Afghan National Security Forces, insurgents are denied the ability to kill, making it safer for the local civilians and children."
