CAMP MARMAL, Afghanistan – Maj. Gen. Erich Pfeffer, commander of International Security Assistance Force Regional Command North, condemned recent suicide attacks in northern Afghanistan.

Scores of local Afghan civilians and Afghan National Security Forces were wounded April 5 as a suicide bomber detonated himself at a bazaar in Kishim City, Badakhshan province. This attack comes one day after a suicide bomber blew himself up in a public park in Maimanah City. That attack caused multiple casualties among ANSF, ISAF and local Afghan civilians.

“These innocent men, women and children were brutally attacked as they were carrying on with their daily lives. This was a cowardly act by enemies of the good people of Afghanistan.”

Pfeffer further added, “This attack displays the lack of respect for the lives of innocent Afghans. There are families who are mourning the loss of their loved ones today. Our condolences go out to the families of the innocent victims killed and wounded in this horrible act.”

“ISAF will continue to partner with the ANSF to identify these enemies of the Afghan people, and hold them accountable,” Pfeffer stated.
