BAGHLAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces raised their numbers with a graduation ceremony, and continued to demonstrate their strength and composure throughout northern Afghanistan.
In Pashah Qol Valley, Pul-e-Khukari district, Baghlan province, the ALP, supervised by coalition SOF, conducted a patrol to meet with village elders to discuss further security measures in the area and obtain information about recent insurgent activities.
“The patrol and discussions with village elders provided important information to the ALP and continues to demonstrate their ability to provide protection to the populace,” said a coalition special operations forces advisor.
Elsewhere, the last class of ALP for Kunduz district, Kunduz province, completed their three-week training and graduated, March 18. The graduating class brings the number of ALP in the district to its full strength at 300 members.
“The ALP has been doing great providing security for Kunduz,” said a coalition SOF advisor. “Now that they are at the full [Ministry of Interior] authorized strength, the security will continue to improve.”
Lastly, in Baghlan province, Baghlan-e-jadid district, ALP on a patrol discovered an improvised explosive device placed in a culvert on a heavily civilian used road, March 21. The ALP cordoned off the area for safety and immediately contacted the Afghan National Army special forces for assistance.
The ANASF quickly responded and determined that the IED was too unstable to move, and safely destroyed the device in place. No civilians were injured and no damage was reported during the IED detonation.
The deputy commanding officer of Task Force Balkh highlighted the cooperation and teamwork between the different components of the ANSF.
“The ALP demonstrated their ability to identify IEDs, cordon off the area, and secure it until ANASF showed up to dispose of the IED,” he said. “That type of cooperation ensures the security of the Afghan people.”
