PAKTIYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – A senior level insurgent financier, Zahir Khan, was captured by the Afghan Uniformed Police’s special tactics team in Chamkani district, March 16.
Khan is a senior level finance, facilitation and operational coordinator responsible for improvised explosive device emplacements and attacks on Afghan National Security Forces and their partnered coalition forces.
The AUP special tactics team proceeded to the mosque in Madakheyl, where they identified and questioned Khan based on the physical description provided by coalition special operations forces. Khan identified himself as Hazratullah Khan, but later confirmed his actual identity. The special tactics team detained Khan and transported him to their detention facility without incident.
“This is another huge capture for the special tactics team. These guys continue to make significant strides in capturing these high value targets independently and with very little assistance from coalition forces,” said Special Operations Task Force-East commander, Lt. Col. William Linn.
No collateral damage or civilian casualties were reported during Khan’s capture.
