Schumacher loses in finals at NHRA Gatornationals; Brown ousted in quarterfinals Newman finishes fourth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
FORT KNOX, Ky., - U.S. Army NHRA Top Fuel drivers Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher and Antron Brown competed in the famed Tire Kingdom Gatornationals last weekend at Auto-Plus Raceway in Gainesville, Fla.
Schumacher, who arrived in Florida with a 25-race winless streak, lost in the finals to Morgan Lucas, Monday, March 12, (the last two rounds of the race were postponed from Sunday due to rain), but he still wrestled away the points lead from Brown.
Brown, who had recorded two final rounds and a win in the opening two races of the season, dropped a close race to Schumacher in the quarterfinals.
The New Jersey native actually had a better elapsed time than Schumacher, but the latter was quicker off the starting line and thus hit the finish line ahead of Brown.
Brown and Schumacher will now have two weekends off before traveling to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, March 30-April 1, for the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals.
Over on the U.S. Army NASCAR Racing side, driver Ryan Newman finished fourth in the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday.
The next stop for Newman on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be this Sunday, March 18, at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
