CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. - Col. Ivan Denton will assume command of Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center from current commander, Col. Todd Townsend. The ceremony will take place Monday, March 12, at 3 p.m. and will be held at Building 722 on Camp Atterbury.
Denton has more than 30 years of service with his most recent tour being to Iraq leading the 219th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, one the last Indiana National Guard units in rotation in support of Operation New Dawn.
Denton has served and played a valuable role in varies leadership assignments throughout the state, including recruiting battalion commander, director of Army personnel and Infantry battalion commander, just to name a few.
Townsend joined the Indiana National Guard in 1978 and has worked at Joint Force Headquarters in Indianapolis in several capacities before taking command at Atterbury in January 2009. Townsend played a direct role in providing leadership and guidance to soldiers and civilians from all 50 states and four U.S. territories that have mobilized through Atterbury, in support of Operation New Dawn, OIF, OEF, missions to the Horn of Africa, Kosovo, and Sinai and many others. He will move on to be the vice chief of staff for the Indiana Joint Forces Headquarters, Indiana National Guard.
