CAMP CARROLL, South Korea — The 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command hosted a media day March 6 for reporters from national and international news agencies to cover rail-head operations during the Foal Eagle exercise.

Reporters visited the Korean Service Corps Humidity Control Warehouse and the rail-head to listen to the briefings given by senior leaders of the 19th ESC.

At the warehouse, 22 reporters were briefed by Col. Craig Cotter, 19th ESC deputy commander and Lt. Col. Doug Pietrowsky, Army Field Support Battalion— North East Asia commander.

“As in past exercises, Foal Eagle 2012 will allow 19th ESC to exercise a full range of equipment capabilities and personnel,” Cotter said. “These exercises are designed to help coach, teach and mentor military members while exercising senior leaders’ decision-making capabilities.”

Following the briefings, the reporters were given the opportunity to take photos and film static displays in front of the warehouse, which is where the military vehicles are stored before they are loaded to be transported.

Next, the media was taken to the rail-head to watch military vehicles from the 214th Forward Support Company be placed on railcars for transportation up north to carry on the rest of their Foal Eagle mission with the 2nd Infantry Division and a Korean artillery battery counterpart.

Subunits of 19th ESC, Material Support Command—Korea and AFSBn-NEA, helped facilitate the movement of equipment belonging to the 1st battalion, 145th Field Artillery. The 145th Field Artillery is part of the Utah Army National Guard.

“Our mission here today is to deploy to the Republic of Korea, draw the equipment at the APS-4 site, to actually go and practice artillery on a range to the north and finally redeploy back to the State of Utah,” said Lt. Col. Adam Robinson, 1st battalion commander.

This visit marks the first time that the 145th Field Artillery has been in Korea since the Korean War.

“Our battalion was last here in Korea during the Korean War so we have a proud history here in Korea as we defended the homeland from the North,” Robinson said. “So we are proud and excited to be here.”
