BAGHLAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan Local Police discovered and helped destroy three improvised explosive devices in Pul-e-Khumri district, Feb. 28.
The ALP were conducting a security patrol when they discovered an IED inside a road culvert.
The ALP quickly secured the area and called the Afghan Uniformed Police for explosive ordnance disposal support in properly handling the IED.
During a thorough search of the area surrounding the initial IED, two additional IEDs were located and secured by ALP forces. All IEDs were turned over to the AUP for disposal.
“The ALP are trained to recognize IEDs and who to call in order to dispose of them,” said a coalition Special Operations Forces advisor. “This skill makes them a very important part of the effort to protect the populace.”
The ALP is a defensive-based, security initiative that brings stability, government presence, and the opportunity for economic development to the rural communities and areas of Afghanistan.
No civilian casualties or property damage was reported.
