PAKTIKA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – An insurgent improvised explosive devices cell leader was captured by Afghan National Security Forces in Orgun district, Feb. 29.
Afghan National Police conducted an independent patrol to the local residence where insurgent leader Habib Jan was believed to be hiding.
Once the ANP arrived at the site and requested Jan turn himself in, Jan responded without hostility and voluntarily turned himself in to the ANP. His two brothers were also detained at the site by the ANP and were turned over to the National Directorate of Security.
The Provincial Chief of Police was notified of the ANP’s success and stated, “Our Afghan police forces are getting stronger and more capable every day in providing security for our local villages.”
Jan was turned over to coalition Special Operations Forces, and is currently in custody at a coalition forces detention facility.
“Not only did the ANP detain [Jan], but they did so peacefully; which is a great indication of their competence,” said a coalition SOF adviser.
No civilian casualties or collateral damage was reported at the time of the arrest.
