MANAMA, Bahrain – Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/ U.S. 5th Fleet Vice Adm. Patrick Walsh hosted a visit from Bahrain's Crown Prince, His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, Nov. 28.
They discussed the U.S. Navy's role in the Middle East, as well as bi-lateral relations between the U.S. military and the country of Bahrain.
"It was a great pleasure meeting with Shaikh Salman," said Walsh. "Bahrain has always been a close and trusted partner with the U.S. Anytime we can sit down together and have mutually beneficial discussions on a wide range of topics is very productive."
The two also discussed cooperative efforts to help maintain security and stability in the Middle Eastern region.
"We share many common interests and goals for regional security and economic prosperity," said Walsh. "Our long and close relationship is largely due to the historic bond that we enjoy with his highness and the people of Bahrain."
U.S. and coalition vessels operate in U.S. 5th Fleet's 2.5-million square-mile area of operation conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO).
MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment, as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. These operations deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons or other material.
