PAKTIYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Officials from the national and provincial government were on hand to witness the official reopening of the Chamkani District Center in Chamkani district, Feb. 1.
National Directorate of Security deputy director, Paktiya deputy governor, and the Provincial Afghan Uniform police chief all showed their support for the village elders and district level governance.
The district center was heavily damaged during an attack in November, when insurgents stormed the facilities and held several government officials hostage. The local government displayed their resiliency by continuing to operate within the district center after the attacks.
Wednesday’s event was the product of continuing cooperation between provincial and district level governance in the area.
“Reopening the district center is a great milestone for the people of the district,” said a coalition special operations forces team member.
Afghan National Security Forces provided security for the district center reopening.
