CAMP MARMAL, Afghanistan - The security shura held at Camp Marmal Jan. 26 marked a distinct difference from past security shuras; this time it was planned and led by Afghan National Security Forces.
Top ANSF commanders from the National Directorate of Security, Afghan National Army, Afghan Uniformed Police, Afghan Border Patrol, Afghan National Civil Order Police and provincial governors from Baghlan and Kunduz, along with Maj. Gen. Markus Kneip, commander of Regional Command North, met to coordinate ongoing operations in RC North. OPPLAN NAWEED 1391 and the Kunduz/Baghlan Corridor Operation are aimed to provide protection against insurgent threats and to bring stability to the region.
“Afghan forces have made great progress so that they may soon assume responsibility for all types of tactical operations,” Kneip said at the shura. “We share your pride and remain committed to ANSF development in achieving a stable, peaceful and prosperous northern Afghanistan.”
Through the planning and action of combined ANSF and RC North operations, the ANSF is enabled to take the lead role in providing security for the Afghan people and for improving governance and development.
