NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Local government officials worked with coalition special operations forces to repair a blocked inlet, allowing water to flow back into irrigation canals in Goshta district, Jan. 19.

The project was started Jan. 6 to provide irrigation to agrarian fields for both the Bazi and Kawazi tribes in southern Goshta district.

The emergency relief program project provided many local farmers access to water in their irrigation canals. Members of the Bazi and Kawazi tribes said they have not had access to water in six years.

Many local villagers also informed the district government that the amount of water currently in the canal was the most they’ve seen in 30 years.

“Projects like this show villagers that the government is working to make their life better,” said a coalition SOF team member.
