CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait - Working and training in Kuwait so far has been an unforgettable experience for the S-6 communications section of the 112th Military Police Battalion.

The mornings start with a briefing from 2nd Lt. Jordan who tells his soldiers the plan for the day and the tactics needed in order to accomplish individual or team missions for the day. Within the section, multiple tasks must be completed on a day to day basis.

Spc. Moberg and Pfc. White are responsible for account management and minor information technology work throughout the companies and battalion.

Sgt. Mays and Spc. Hood are the heads of the major IT work for the battalion and companies, which consist of constant patches, printer issues, and reimaging of certain systems. Spc. Hunter and Spc. Brandon are responsible for inventory of the section, radios, Blue Force Tracker (FBCB2) management and security of communications security.

The senior enlisted non-commissioned officer of the S-6, Staff Sgt. Haselhorst, handles a multitude of tasks each day. Staff Sgt. Haselhorst handles all of the logistics and administration of all equipment to the companies. He is also responsible for making sure all tasks are completed in a timely and correct manner.

Within the section, training by Sgt. Mays on IT work is a weekly must for all of the lower enlisted in the S-6. Sgt. Mays teaches the lower enlisted how to configure systems and troubleshooting problems starting with a process that he likes to follow, also known as, “The Mays Program."

S-6 is also responsible for making cables such as CAT-5 and CO-AXIAL for each as needed.

Not only is the section full of bright, IT savvy soldiers, S-6 is also full of soldiers who are familiar with the field side of the communications profession. Installing radios into humvees, setting up OE-254 communications antennas, and routine radio checks are some of the tasks that all S-6 personnel have been trained on by their senior ranks. The end of each day consist of an After Action Review asking each soldier what can be improved and what was done well.

Overall, the S-6 section is a well-trained, well-oiled fighting machine ready for whatever mission may come their way.
