Afghan Commandos and coalition SOF conduct operations in Faiz Abad Horn
GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army commandos from the 8th Commando Kandak and coalition special operations forces conducted a clearing operation, followed by a medical outreach for the villagers of the Faiz Abad Horn in Nawa district Dec. 13-18.
While the commandos searched through the area for signs of insurgent activity, the executive officer for the 8th Commando Kandak took the opportunity to conduct a shura with more than 250 local villagers. The XO spoke to the villagers about the presence of the commandos and coalition SOF in the region.
“We [commandos] are here for you. We are here to provide your villages and the region with security,” said the XO. “We will maintain our presence here until it is safe. It is time for all [Afghans] to stand together and protect ourselves and families from the Taliban.”
After the villages in the horn were secured, the commandos organized two medical clinics in the area. The first clinic offered medical care to the women and children, and the second clinic was open to all of the villagers.
“The clearance operation denied insurgents their freedom of movement, while ensuring security throughout the Faiz Abad Horn,” said a coalition SOF representative. “The medical clinics allowed the villagers [to] receive much needed medical assistance.”
