WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A native of Apopka, Fla., was promoted to the rank of corporal in the United States Marine Corps, Dec. 1.
Cpl. Nathan Previti, 24, enlisted in the Marine Corps, June 1, 2010, and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. Previti graduated from Platoon 2059, Company H, 2nd Battalion.
He went to the School of Infantry and, upon completion, received orders to Marine Barracks Washington to serve in Guard Company.
Previti currently serves as the corporal of the guard, second in command for his squad.
The rank of corporal is the first non-commissioned officer rank in the Corps, and is an important rank of leadership. NCO’s obtain their position of authority by promotion through the enlisted ranks.
“It comes with great responsibility,” Previti said. “I look forward to fulfilling my duties as an NCO to the best of my abilities.”
His awards include a National Defense Service Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Medal.
Previti plans to leave the Marine Corps when his enlistment is over in June 2014.
Barracks Marines support ceremonial and security missions in the nation’s capitol. Each year, the Marines support more than 30 parades and hundreds of functions, including honored funerals and sporting events across the country and globe.
