Insurgents fire on Afghan Local Police checkpoint, injuring eight-year-old girl
KONAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Insurgents opened fire on an Afghan Local Police candidate checkpoint, resulting in a nearby eight-year-old girl being shot by insurgent PKM rounds in Donai Village, Sarkani district, Dec. 1
The ALP candidates, advised by coalition special operations forces, were constructing a new checkpoint when they came under PKM fire from insurgents.
ALP and coalition SOF positively identified the insurgent attackers and returned fire. After the firefight concluded, village elders brought the wounded eight-year-old girl, who had been shot in the hip, to the combined forces for medical treatment.
After coalition SOF provided immediate medical treatment, the village elders took the eight-year-old girl to the nearby Asadabad hospital for further medical evaluation. The girl is currently in stable condition at the hospital.
A coalition SOF team member reported that the ALP candidates responded extremely well to the insurgent attack.
