MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Friends and neighbors of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and MCAS Cherry Point are invited to get in the holiday spirit at this year's 2nd MAW Band Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the air station's theater.
The concert is free and open to the public, with the front gate opening at 5 p.m. and the theater doors opening at 6 p.m. for first-come, first-serve seating. Attendees are encouraged to don their festive holiday attire, and Toys for Tots donations are welcome.
"Our goal is for people to not think of this year's concert as a typical band performance," said the band's director, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Robert A. Szabo. "We are adding vocals, bells and a couple of other surprises that I don't want to spoil."
The 2nd MAW Band travels approximately 30,000 miles each year for a variety of performances, but the Christmas concert aboard Cherry Point is one of their biggest. This year's concert will include classic holiday tunes, some twists on traditional favorites, and a little bit of crowd participation.
"Christmas is obviously a special occasion," said Szabo. "To get the community and the families of the Marines and Sailors together - it's a good time."
