    KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Team Resolute, which consisted of 19 soldiers assigned to Task Force Resolute, championed as the victors in the a five-round single elimination football tournament titled "The Turkey Bowl" on Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, Nov. 29.

    The tournament was sponsored by TF Resolute as a way to boost morale and build esprit de corps. Twenty-four teams of made up of personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, as well as civilians, took part in the football tournament, all in hopes of winning the coveted title of Turkey Bowl champions and the trophy.

    “The Turkey Bowl tournament was a way to help boost morale while deployed and to go along with the traditional football games that are played on television on Thanksgiving by the NFL”, said Master Sgt. Derrick Austin, Team Resolute coach. “This tournament was the talk of [Kandahar Airfield] from all branches. We had all branches out supporting their teams, laughing and having fun.”

    Team Resolute won the championship by beating the Charlie Company 563rd Chargers, stationed out of Fort Campbell, Ky., in the last round with a score of 15 to 6.

    “This was a great opportunity for the soldiers in my unit, as well as all the different forces and civilians, to get together and have a great time doing something we all could enjoy,” said Staff Sgt. Christopher Payne, a defensive linesman for Team Resolute. “It really seemed like everyone, to include all the fans that came out, had a great time. Anything to take everyone's minds off the job for a few minutes is always good thing.”
