PHOENIX - Following in the footsteps of former Mt. Carmel High School football greats, like Donovan McNabb and Simeon Rice, 17 year old Vontrell Williams has played his way to a college scholarship.
Williams, who has only played football for four years, has earned a scholarship to the University of Illinois, where he plans to major in business in addition to playing for the Fighting Illini.
Before making his way to U of I, however, Williams will be playing in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Phoenix, Jan. 3, 2012.
The Semper Fidelis Bowl, scheduled to be played at Chase Field in Phoenix, is part of a partnership between Marine Corps Recruiting Command and Junior Rank.
Junior Rank is a football camp program designed to develop the next generation of student athletes through education, evaluation and instruction.
The bowl game, which will be nationally televised by CBS Sports, will be an East-West format game featuring the top 100 high school football players in the country, some of whom attended Junior Rank camps during the summer.
βI feel blessed to be a part of the game,β said the Caravan defensive end and tackle. βIt feels very good to be representing the strongest force in our military in the [Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl].β
