    Insurgent mortar round lands in village, injures 15 civilians

    PAKTIYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – An 82 mm mortar round landed in a bazaar and wounded 15 civilians in Ali Kheyl village, Nov. 3.

    The round was part of a barrage targeting a nearby coalition Special Operations Forces combat outpost.

    Of the 15 civilians injured in the attack, 10 were treated at the local hospital. Six were treated for minor injuries and released, and four stayed extra days for additional treatment and observation.

    The other five civilians injured were treated at the coalition SOF outpost. One child was treated and medically evacuated to another coalition base due to internal injuries. Another male was taken to an Afghan National Army hospital for his injuries. All others were treated for shrapnel wounds and released.

    This was the second mortar attack on the area within three days.
