GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan National Security Forces partnered with coalition Special Operations Forces conducted a combat reconnaissance patrol to Pitab village to destroy a cache of homemade explosives discovered following a tip from a villager in the Nawa district, Oct. 14.

The villager informed the District Governor and the District Chief of Police about the location of a cache of HME after noticing insurgents moving suspicious bags in the area.

“The villagers in this area are concerned about their safety and support ANSF’s efforts to expel insurgency from their communities,” a coalition SOF team member said.

The partnered forces located the cache which consisted of 62 bags of raw ammonium nitrate fertilizer hidden under plastic sheeting, mud and shrubs weighing a total 6,820 pounds. Afghan National Police and Afghan Local Police cleared the cache of any improvised explosive devices, moved the HME to a secure location and successfully destroyed the HME.

There was no civilian or property damage sustained during the detonation.
