    Story by Sgt. Thomas Duval

    1st Brigade, 11th Airborne Division

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - In the Panjwai district in Southern Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, the Taliban are still desperately fighting to maintain a foothold. As that footprint in one of the most dangerous districts in Afghanistan begins to diminish, the Afghan Uniformed Police are stepping up to show that they are ready not only to sustain the progress made throughout the district, but to also move forward in protecting and serving the people of Afghanistan.

Members of the AUP visited local Afghan families of Panjwa’i to assess their needs and to deliver humanitarian aid, Sep. 28. The AUP distributed bags filled with food to the families most in need, as identified by the village Maliks.

During the visit the AUP also took the time to strengthen their lines of communication with the Afghan people as they passed out AM/FM radios.

Although members of International Security Assistance Forces were in attendance, the AUP’s actions showed that they can successfully conduct humanitarian operations independently.
