CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Third Army kicked off the annual Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas here Oct. 3, marking the 50th anniversary of the fund-raising campaign.

The mission of the CFC is to support and promote charity through a voluntary program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

Since 1961 the CFC has coordinated the fund-raising efforts of various charitable organizations so federal employees would only be solicited once in the workplace while retaining the opportunity to make charitable contributions through payroll deduction.

During the kickoff here, Third Army service members grilled and feasted on freshly cooked barbecue while many voluntarily pledged donations to charities of their choice.

“This is our chance to give back to whatever community or organization we choose,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Stephan Frennier, Third Army/ARCENT senior enlisted leader and a Whitehouse, Texas native. “This is for a great cause.”

Service members and the government workforce continue to make the CFC the largest and most successful workplace charitable fundraiser in the world. Continuing a long-standing tradition of selfless giving, federal employees in 2010 raised over 281 million dollars for charitable causes around the world.

Brig. Gen. Robert McCaleb, Third Army/ARCENT Director of Resource Management and a Haymarket, Va., native, said Third Army is doing its part to help contribute to the campaign.

“Thanks for coming out and participating,” said McCaleb. “Our goal this year for the CFC is three hundred thousand dollars. I know we can lead the way and meet this goal.”

Among those who participated was Pfc. Stacy Nesbitt, Third Army/ARCENT Special Troops Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Company and a Philadelphia native. Nesbitt said having the chance to donate was his way of giving back.

“It feels great,” said Nesbitt. “I know I’m donating for a good cause.”

Third Army’s commitment to the well-being of its service members, as well as the troops and citizens of partner nations, remains a priority. Through participation in the CFC, Third Army is helping service members, the strength of our nation, to sustain the fight and shape the future by providing charitable donations throughout the world.
