    II Marine Expeditionary Force

    Highlighting Cherry Point's warriors

    WHAT IS YOUR JOB?

My job is to engage enemy aircraft using various weapon systems with the primary one being a PL-87 Stinger Missile. When not conducting air defense it is my job to provide security force assistance to a forward operating base or a convoy.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF YOUR JOB?

The best part of my job is the fact that I get to fire so many different weapon systems in support of both my primary and secondary jobs. I get to fire the Stinger Missile, the M2 .50 Caliber Heavy Machine Gun and the M240B Machine Gun.

WHAT’S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB?

The hardest part of the job is having to learn and know a lot about the identifying factors of aircraft in order to classify it as an enemy or friendly aircraft.

HOW DOES YOUR JOB SUPPORT THE MISSION OF 2ND MAW AND MCAS CHERRY POINT?

It is my job, as well as others in my job field, to provide air defense security to 2nd MAW airfields around the globe. If I don’t do my job then a lot of people could die in an enemy aircraft attack.

HOW DOES YOUR JOB IN GARRISON DIFFER FROM YOUR JOB IN THE FIELD?

In the current conflicts in Afghanistan the differences are when we are in garrison we are training for our primary job. While deployed we are conducting more security missions. This is because we are fighting an enemy without a real enemy threat.
