GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Task Force White Eagle soldiers and 17 mullahs from Ghazni city held the shura to discuss security and development issues, Sept. 18.

This shura was the first with shia mullahs in the history of Task Force White Eagle and was important because it allowed religious and civilian leaders to work together to improve conditions in Hazara quarters, Ghazni city.

“In Afghanistan we should talk not only with clerks and administrations, but also with elders and mullahs. Sometimes, they know what people need, what is missing, and what is going on in the region before officials do,” said Aleksandra Zamojska, from District Development Group.

During the shura all mullahs said that they don’t have many problems with security in Ghazni city but the living conditions there is the most important issue for them.

“We care about many poor families, about education and about women problems, but sometimes we don’t have enough money to help all of them,” said mullah Muhammad Hussain Maqdat.

Other mullahs, from Nawabad and Kala-i Shada asked Polish soldiers for support in providing madrasas (religious schools) with pencils and notebooks for children. Approximately 7,000 students attend shia madras.

Other issues discussed in the Shura included preparing a temporary medical point for local society and finding location for traffic light. Most importantly, the mullahs were interested in the challenges and opportunities of the reintegration program as well.

To culminate the event mullahs, Task Force White Eagle soldiers, and 5th Police Post policemen shared a meal.
