KONAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Members of 1st Company, 1st Commando Kandak, conducted a clearing operation which resulted in the death of six insurgents, Sarkani district, Sept. 8.
The Commandos, assisted by coalition special operations forces, conducted the operations to deny insurgents access to safe havens and increase secure areas in Ganjigal village.
Upon arriving to the area, multiple men were seen scattering from the area. The combined forces recognized them as having weapons and taking fighting positions. Six insurgents died in the resulting firefight.
During the operations, the Commandos and coalition SOF discovered a cache of multiple chest racks for ammunition, AK-47 rifles, radios, magazines and an anti-personnel mine.
Two possible insurgents were taken into Commando custody for fleeing and trying to hide their rifles. Two other possible insurgents who were taken into custody were found hiding in a building after the fire fight was concluded.
No civilian injuries or collateral damage was reported.
