    19th Public Affairs Detachment

PAKTIA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The Afghan Uniformed Police Special Tactics Team recovered approximately 2,000 pounds of hashish and placed two suspects into local detention in Chamkani District Aug. 25.

The AUP were in the Chamkani Bazaar when they spotted a suspicious utility truck. The team intercepted the vehicle and searched the passenger and contents. The search uncovered 25 bags containing 80 pounds of hashish each.

The AUP placed the suspects into detention and contacted coalition special operations forces for support.

The operation resulted in the removal of almost one ton of hashish and the AUP’s proven ability to conduct mission planning.

The shipment was likely to be sold to fund insurgent activity, and the seizure was a significant blow to the insurgent and criminal facilitation in the area and demonstrates the government’s commitment to security, said a coalition SOF team leader.
