MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan – Misawa Air Base chief petty officer selectees spent the morning assisting a local school here, Aug. 18, in preparation for the upcoming school year.
With assistance from Misawa Air Base Chief Petty Officer Association members, the selectees, labored throughout the early morning hours moving furniture and school supplies back into Cummings Elementary School classrooms, following summer renovations.
“This was no small task,” said Scott Sterry, Cummings Elementary School principal. “This project would have taken us two or three days, instead it was completed in a matter of hours.”
For Senior Chief Petty Officer Daniel Kimball, master-at-arms, helping the school has benefits beyond just building team cohesiveness.
“My kids go to this school, so any way I can help I want too,” he said. “The CPOA volunteers throughout the year within the local community, but it is also important that we also aid our on base community as well.”
Chief Petty Officer Vaughn Scott, cryptologic technician collection, says that working alongside veteran chief petty officers was a great experience,
“There is a sense of belonging and purpose, a feeling of unity,” he said. “You could really see that by watching how everyone just got in there and worked until the job was done. We accomplished a lot in a short amount of time, and even had fun doing it.”
