BANGKOK, Thailand - Members of the military nursing community in the Pacific region gathered at the Phramongkutklao Hospital in Bangkok Thailand on Aug. 3 for a tour of the Hospital facilities during the 2011 Asia Pacific Military Nursing Symposium, which is sponsored by U.S. Pacific Command and executed under the direction of 13th Air Force.

Participants of the Fifth Annual Nursing Symposium were split into five groups and they visited the rehabilitation center, the cardiac center, the trauma center and emergency centers.

“We’re honored to showcase our best wards to the foreign nursing delegates, so they know good we are at our hospital,” said Royal Thai Army nurse, Capt. Ann Thaindom. “Our hospital is the largest Army hospital in Thailand and we take care of both civilians and our soldiers, who are our heroes.”

Phramongkutklao Hospital has more than 1200 beds and is also is where the nursing college is located. Touring this historic facility served as an opportunity for foreign members of the healthcare field to familiarize themselves with the capabilities of the Royal Thai Army hospital and staff.

“Touring this facility allows our foreign counterparts to view and discuss what’s different and what’s the same at our hospital,” said Thaidom. “Everyone gets the chance to share their expertise and learn from this visit.”

Participants of the conference were eager to tour the hospital to see what they may learn and what practices they might be able to expand on.

This was a great opportunity for us to exchange ideas not only with Thailand, but the rest of the foreign delegates that are here for the symposium,” Maj. Yonghe Kim, Republic of Korea Army.

This is the fifth year of the symposium, which started at Hickam Air force Base in 2007, and the first time that Thailand has hosted the event.

More than 12 countries from the Asia-Pacific region have come together to build on relationships by exchanging information and techniques with one another.
