    KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition combined security force killed several insurgents and detained two suspected insurgents during a security operation in Kajaki District, Helmand province, yesterday.

    The security force was conducting a security operation targeting a Taliban financier who works with narcotic suppliers and insurgent commanders to ensure finances are provided for Taliban operations.

    As the security force searched for the financier, they noticed several individuals setting up a machine gun attack. Assessing a threat, the security force fired at the individuals, killing them.

    North

    During a security operation in Shirin Tagab District, Faryab province, an Afghan and coalition combined security force killed several insurgents who were planning an ambush attack. The security force was notified of the impending attack after receiving several reports from concerned citizens throughout the week.

    The force followed intelligence leads to the insurgent operating location, where they noticed several individuals preparing for the reported ambush attack on a separate Afghan and coalition force. After assessing a threat, the security force fired at the individuals, killing several. Several other suspected insurgents were detained for further questioning.

    In Taloqan District, Takhar province, an Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents while searching for an Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan facilitator. The facilitator is a suicide-attack coordinator and planner who operates throughout the province.

    South

    A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained numerous suspected insurgents during a clearance operation targeting a Taliban safe haven in Kajaki District, Helmand province, yesterday while clearing a known enemy narcotics trafficking area. Several Taliban members, facilitators and narcotics traffickers are based in this location.

    After leaving the area, the force was attacked with small arms fire and RPG fire from a nearby bunker. The force responded with small arms fire and close air support, destroying the bunker. No civilian casualties were reported.

    In Dand District, Kandahar province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban facilitator and one other insurgent during a nighttime security operation. The captured facilitator was responsible for coordinating the receipt and delivery of lethal aid for Taliban cells operating in eastern Panjwa’i District.

    A combined Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security operation targeting a Taliban leader in Qalat District, Zabul province, yesterday.

    The leader is responsible for conducting roadside bomb and direct attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

    An Afghan and coalition security force discovered a weapons cache in Spin Boldak District, Kandahar province, yesterday. The cache contained over 200 munitions, including rocket propelled grenades, 60 mm and 80 mm mortar rounds, 150 30 mm grenades, anti-tank rounds and 2.75-inch rocket boosters. The munitions have been seized and will be destroyed at a later date.

    East

    A combined Afghan and coalition force conducted a security operation which resulted in the detention of several suspected insurgents and the death of a local national in Dowlat District, Laghman province, yesterday. The target of this operation was a Taliban facilitator who coordinates attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces.

    While conducting the search, the security force attempted to clear a compound associated with the individual. The force called for all building occupants to exit the buildings peacefully. All women and children exited the building. Two males were non-compliant and remained inside the building. Local national females assisted the security force in calling for the men to exit the building, but the individuals refused to leave.

    Following numerous attempts to have the men exit the building, the security force entered the building to apprehend them peacefully. As the force moved, one of the men charged the security members, displaying hostile intent. The force, assessing a threat, fired at the man and killed him. The force subsequently discovered the man was unarmed.

    Three individuals with suspected ties to the Taliban were detained during this operation. The force also confiscated multiple RPG rounds, several RPG boosters, multiple piles of AK-47 and machine gun rounds, military clothing and a chest rack. Thirty pounds of wet opium was also discovered and safely destroyed.

    In Terayzai District, Khost province, an Afghan and coalition combined security force detained two suspected insurgents during a security operation while searching for a Haqqani network leader yesterday. The leader directs Haqqani insurgent attacks against Afghan and coalition security force.

    An Afghan and coalition combined security force captured a Haqqani Network leader during a security operation in Zurmat District, Paktiya province, yesterday. The detained leader was responsible for coordinating roadside bomb attacks in the district and supplying and storing roadside bomb-making material for insurgents in the area.

    During a security operation in Zurmat District, Paktiya province, a combined Afghan and coalition security force detained one suspected insurgent while searching for a Haqqani network leader. The leader conducts, coordinates and directs roadside bomb and indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces operating within the district.
