CONTINGENCY OPERATION BASE SPEICHER, Iraq - Soldiers of 50th Signal Battalion (Expeditionary) are spread out throughout multiple sites in Iraq and Kuwait. The mission enables our soldiers the opportunity to work with members of other services. The soldiers of 50th ESB at COB Speicher have the opportunity to work with a few outstanding airmen.

The airmen that landed at Contingency Operation Base Speicher six months ago are from everywhere: from the beautiful Midwest to the exotic Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The airmen here brought with them a broad range of skill-sets, ranging from computer troubleshooting to fiber-optic cable installation.

Senior Airman Beaton and Airman 1st Class Latta trained the Red Bull Cable Dogs on digging and trenching with heavy machinery and the fine art of fiber-optic cable fusion splicing.

Beaton and Latta have months of experience with cable work, having laid miles of fiber around COB Speicher in the last several months.

Tech Sgt. Daniels and Staff Sgt. Galetti taught even the most stubborn of the Red Bulls to answer the help desk phones properly and assist customers to the best of their abilities. Staff Sgt. Wright trained our Red Bulls in advanced troubleshooting and computer repair. For many of our soldiers, it was their first time working with another branch of service.

Not all of their time was taken up by technical training, however; the airmen found time to take the Red Bulls to the gym for some serious Air Force physical training. No joke intended. Sadly, they have reached the end of their deployment and are returning to their homes soon.

When the airmen leave, they will most certainly be missed, but we all wish them the best.
