    Polish lay cornerstones for new school in Gelan District

    GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Polish army soldiers with the 3rd Tactical Support Team, Civic-military Cooperation met with district elders and mullahs to lay the cornerstones on a new boys and girls school to be constructed in Janda, the capital of Gelan District, Afghanistan June 27.

    More than 200 students will benefit from the project.

    Sahib Shamsullah from the Education Division, said this day was relevant and important for young Afghans of Gelan.

    “Well-educated children are the future of Afghanistan. … So far, we have had many problems with education. Hundreds of children each day had to travel for hours to get to school. We were not able to teach many children also. This project will help resolve this problem. We will have big school and better conditions for teaching,” said Shamsullah.

    The future Principal Alluh Nazar agreed the new school would overcome the lack of school buildings in the province.

    After short meeting Sahib Shamsullah, director of the Education Division, Abdul Hameed, an engineer from Ghazni Province, Gul Ahmad, district police chief, and Polish army Capt. Wojciech Mąkola, commander 3rd TST, laid symbolic stones at the foundation.

    “It is the main chance for Janda, which predestines to the name of the capitol of the administrative district. (...) Thanks to the diligence of people, the involvement of teachers from others villages. Thanks to administration and elders for the care of the education of the youngest generation of Afghans,” said Makola,

    According to the elders, a new school shows Janda is not a small and poor village, instead it is becoming an important village in Ghazni.

    The new school will be named after religious leader, Mulla-Ridi.
